Sen. Victory comments on 2021 State of the State address

LANSING, Mich. — After listening to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s 2021 State of the State address virtually Wednesday night, Senate Judiciary and Public Safety Committee Chairman Roger Victory, R-Hudsonville, issued the following statement:

“We have repeatedly heard from the governor that we need to work together to get through the pandemic, only for her to turn around and move the goal posts and go it alone again. The people of Michigan deserve more than talk, they need real action and firm plans to fully reopen our state. While I will keep hoping and trying to work together, it is well past time that the Legislature holds the governor accountable for her words and actions.

“We will face significant challenges through the course of this pandemic and beyond, but we owe it to the good people of Michigan to deliver positive and proactive solutions. I am committed to working with everyone toward delivering tangible results.

“We must ensure the effective distribution of the vaccine, support our local businesses, fully reopen our schools, and allow folks to safely get back to work. We also must protect and promote the voice of the people in decisions by state government that affect their way of life.

“As the new judiciary chairman in the Senate, I look forward to working with my legislative colleagues, our law enforcement community, and the governor to reaffirm the values in our justice system and find the best solutions for our state.”
